Huge congratulations to our Under 12 boys football team who clinched the league in Racecourse Park last Saturday morning.
In a winner takes all final match of the season, the boys beat Robert Emmets in a fantastic game of football, that was great entertainment.
NDG got off to a slow start and faced an uphill task when they went 2-1 to 0-0 score down early on. However, the team showed tremendous character to not drop their heads, as they dug deep to turn the game around. A quick scoring burst midway through the half saw our lads take the lead and they never looked back after that.
Keepers and defence were superb throughout, defending the goal with tenacious tackling and fearless desire to win 50/50 ball. As a result they contained Robert Emmets to just one more point after the first 10 minutes.
Midfield were crucial in turning the game around in the first half, when they started to carry ball forward and attack the heart of the opposition defence, who could not cope with our hard running midfielders.
Once the team got on top, our forwards were so clinical in front of goal. The interplay, movement and ball winning of our attack was a joy to watch and this was reflected on the scoreboard as the team ran out comfortable winners in the end.
The league title is fully deserved for the teams hard work, commitment and great play throughout the year. The superb team work in this, and previous, matches is a result of the many hours spent on the training ground.
So a massive well done to the team and their coaches, the club can be very proud of this group.
